The history books were rewritten by James ‘Flex’ Lewis at the 2014 Olympia and it was a privilege to be there with my camera capturing the action as it unfolded.
As if the 50th Olympia Weekend in Las Vegas was not historic enough, the Welsh Dragon had the chance to etch his name in bodybuilding folklore by winning his third 212 Showdown.
And Flex Lewis grabbed it with both hands – blowing the competition away to make it a hattrick of titles.
You didn’t have to be looking through the long lens of a camera to see what formidable shape he was in on the Olympia stage.
Flex is famous for his winning blend of size, aesthetics and sharp conditioning and, as you can see from the shots I took, he was still at his unimpeachable best with the help from his right hand man Neil Hill aka Yoda
With a pair of 212 titles already under his belt, he was always going to be a tough man to beat. But second place Eduardo Correa ran it close and showed why he is among the best in the business.
It was an incredible battle to watch unfold under the bright Olympia lights.
Top IFBB Pro Jose Raymond was in freakish shape in third place, as you can see in the shots I captured. But Flex was imperious and it was to be his night as he once again took the 212 crown.
Surely it will have to take something special to knock Flex off the top. I imagine in 30 years time when I am looking back on my photographs he will still stand out as one of the greatest bodybuilders I ever shot.
Check out some of the shots I took from the 212 class as an overall below.
