Fitness Photoshoot Preparation Guide
Everything you need to know before your session. Nutrition timing, outfit choices, skin preparation, and a step-by-step walkthrough of what happens on the day. 18 years of experience distilled into one guide.
The Preparation Timeline
Photoshoot preparation is not a single day. It is a timeline. The earlier you start thinking about it, the better you will look and feel on the day.
4-6 weeks before: Book your session and download the free Photoshoot Prep Guide. Start thinking about your goals for the images, what you want to use them for, and what outfits you might bring.
2-3 weeks before: Dial in your nutrition. This is not about crash dieting. It is about consistency. If you are already training and eating well, continue doing what you are doing. The goal is to look your best while feeling your best.
1 week before: Prepare your outfits. Bring 3-5 options covering gym wear, lifestyle clothing, and anything that represents your brand or personality. Variety gives you more options in the final gallery.
2-3 days before: Consider a light spray tan if appropriate for your skin tone and the look you want. Moisturise daily. Avoid anything that might cause skin irritation.
The night before: Get 7-8 hours of sleep. Rest matters more than most people realise. You want to look fresh, not drained.
Day of: Eat a light meal 1-2 hours before. Stay hydrated. Arrive at the studio ready to go.
What to Wear
Outfit choice can make or break your images. The what to wear guide covers this in full detail, but here are the essentials:
- Gym wear: Well-fitted training clothes that show your physique without being too tight or too loose. Avoid large logos unless they are part of your brand.
- Lifestyle: Smart casual, relaxed, or editorial looks that show personality. Think about what represents you beyond the gym.
- Competition wear: If you compete, bring your posing trunks or bikini. Bring spares.
- Accessories: Hats, belts, watches, jewellery. Small details add variety without changing outfits.
For men specifically, the men's outfit guide covers what works best on camera for different body types and looks.
Christopher will advise on the day about what works best under the studio lighting. Bring more options than you think you need.
Posing and Direction
This is the part most people worry about. And it is the part that matters least, because Christopher handles all of it.
Every shot is fully directed. Where to stand. How to angle your body. What to do with your hands. Where to look. How to hold the pose. Christopher has spent 18 years directing people in front of the camera, from IFBB Pros to complete first-timers. He knows what works for every body type and fitness level.
You do not need modelling experience. You do not need to practise poses in the mirror. You just need to show up. The posing guide explains the approach in more detail if you want to understand the process, but it is not required reading.
Most clients say they felt comfortable within the first few minutes. By halfway through the session, most are genuinely enjoying it.
What to Expect on the Day
The full walkthrough covers every detail, but here is the short version:
You arrive at the studio in Nottingham. It is a private, purpose-built gym with professional lighting, mirrors, equipment, and changing facilities. It is just you and Christopher. No audience.
You have a quick chat about your goals for the session. Christopher sets up the first look and starts directing. You move through different setups, outfits, and areas of the studio. The pace is relaxed but purposeful.
Your edited gallery is delivered within 48 hours. High-resolution files ready for print, social media, and anything else you need them for.
